Cloud database

A cloud database is a database that runs on servers in a professional data centre rather than on a computer in your office — so that your ERP, portal or app can read and write business data securely from anywhere, with backups, updates and capacity handled by the provider.

What it is

Every business system stores its records somewhere: items, customers, orders, invoices, stock movements. Traditionally that place was a server under a desk or in a back room, maintained by whoever knew how. A cloud database moves that store to a provider's data centre, where it runs on redundant hardware, is backed up on a schedule, patched by specialists and can grow when the business grows — without buying new machines.

It is not the same as a SaaS product. With SaaS you rent an application and its data lives with the vendor. With a cloud database you rent infrastructure: the database and the data remain yours, your software connects to it, and you decide the region it lives in, who can reach it and how it is backed up. Many custom ERPs and portals are built exactly this way.

Why it matters for a growing business

The office server fails on the worst day: a power surge, a flooded floor, a hard disk that quietly stopped backing up months ago. A cloud database removes that single point of failure and the person-dependency that goes with it. Staff at a second branch, a warehouse across town or a sales visit can work on the same live records as head office, and an outage in one place does not stop the business everywhere.

It also changes what is affordable. A small company can have the same class of backup, encryption and monitoring that only large firms could once justify, and pay for the capacity it actually uses. Where connectivity is unreliable, applications can be designed to capture data offline and sync when the line returns, so that load-shedding or a slow link delays a sync rather than losing a record.

How AutoProbaho uses it

AutoProbaho builds custom ERPs, portals and automations on cloud databases hosted in the client's own account — the client chooses the provider and region, holds the credentials and owns the data. Migration projects move records out of Excel files, Access databases and ageing office servers into a clean cloud schema with validation, then connect the existing tools to it. Backups, access roles and encryption are configured from the first day, not added later.

Frequently asked questions

Properly configured, it is safer than on an office machine: encrypted in transit and at rest, backed up automatically to a second location, reachable only by named users and monitored for unusual access. What matters is the configuration and who holds the keys — which is why AutoProbaho sets up the database in the client's own account.
